Raza de caballos livianos originarios de EE.UU. La raza fue desarrollada mediante la cruza de machos Purasangre, Morgan y Standardbred con yeguas nativas de suave andar. Tiene una alzada de 15–16 palmos (1,5–1,6 m [5–5,3 pies]) y es de color bayo, pardo, negro, gris o castaño. Estos animales son usados en dos pruebas de equitación: las categorías de tres y de cinco andares. Los tres andares naturales son el paso, el trote y el medio galope. La otra, de cinco andares, agrega dos andares de adiestramiento, la ambladura y el galope suave. La raza también es conocida por su elegancia como caballo de tiro en espectáculos.
